The story behind Feel This Not That

This site exists because of a simple, uncomfortable discovery: your emotional life isn’t random. It runs on inputs. And most of us never chose ours.

From reactive to deliberate

For most of his adult life, Julius Henderson treated his emotional state like weather — something that happened to him. Some days anxious, some days flat, occasionally great, never explained. He did what high performers do: worked harder, slept less, and called the tension “drive.”

The shift came from an unglamorous observation: his worst weeks tracked his inputs almost perfectly. The feeds he scrolled, the people he circled, the loops he replayed — every one of them was feeding something. Change the diet, and the baseline moved. Not instantly. But reliably, the way training moves a muscle.

That observation became a practice, the practice became a framework, and the framework became Feel This Not That: A Field Guide to Emotional Programming. No mysticism, no five-step morning miracle. Just the mechanics of what repetition installs — and how to take over the installation.

THE FRAMEWORK

Four steps. One system.

Everything on this site — every article, video, and tool — maps to the same loop:

AWARENESS

See it — Notice what’s actually feeding your state, without judgment. You can’t interrupt a pattern you can’t see.

INTERRUPT

Break it — Put one deliberate gap between trigger and reaction. Small gap, total leverage.

INSTALL

Live it — Replace the input, don’t just remove it. Repetition is installation — so repeat on purpose.

BECOME

Make it you — Run it long enough and it stops being practice. The new baseline is just who you are.

Feel this

  • Practical tools you can run the same day
  • Plain language about how repetition shapes you
  • Small reps, honestly counted
  • Respect for your intelligence — and your time

Not that

  • Therapy, diagnosis, or medical advice
  • Toxic positivity and vision-board magic
  • 4 a.m. routines cosplaying as depth
  • Outrage about outrage — we don’t feed the thing we’re naming

Don’t start with everything. Start with one input.

The Start Here page walks you through the framework in about ten minutes.
